THE FIRST FEATURE FILM BASED ON A
FRANK PERETTI NOVEL ARRIVES ON DVD AND VIDEO HANGMAN'S CURSE Fox's Witness Entertainment Sets CBA Release for March 23 DVD Includes A Featurette On Peretti, Behind-the-Scenes Footage And The Original Theatrical Trailer CENTURY CITY, Calif. For the very first time ever, Frank Peretti fans will be able to take home one of their favorite author's books in a feature film format when Hangman's Curse arrives on VHS and DVD on March 23. Starring David Keith (Daredevil, Behind Enemy Lines) and Mel Harris ('Thirtysomething'), Hangman's Curse follows a series of mysterious happenings at Rogers High School in the Pacific Northwest. One by one, students fall victim to a mysterious illness that leads to severe paranoia, hallucinations and potentially death. As the popular suspense author's first book to be brought to the screen, Hangman's Curse drew rave reviews from fans when it opened theatrically in key markets earlier this fall. Priced to own at $24.98 U.S. ($29.98 Canada), the Hangman's Curse DVD includes two never-before-seen featurettes and the original theatrical trailer. 'While it's been thrilling to see my first book brought to life on the big screen and enjoyed by the audiences in the theaters, I'm looking forward to the DVD release so that families everywhere can pick up a copy to take home for themselves - just as they have done with my books for so many years now,' Peretti said. 'There's just something deeply satisfying to an author about having people take a piece of his or her work into their hearts and homes, and I'm glad that everyone will have that same opportunity through this release.' Hangman's Curse - the debut film released from Twentieth Century Fox's new Witness Entertainment is rated PG-13 and forges new territory in the teen thriller genre boasting no foul language, no excessive violence, sex or nudity. Hangman's Curse is a values-friendly alternative for teens and families who enjoy scary movies but have more conservative tastes. 'Frank Peretti's supernatural thrillers lend themselves well to this genre,' fan and producer Ralph Winter (X-Men, X2, Planet of the Apes) said. 'His novels feature good people trying to do the right thing, but facing dark and evil powers. That's a theme audiences enjoy especially by those who like to be scared a little bit along the way.' Peretti writes for both teens and adults, with Hangman's Curse being the first in his juvenile fiction series, 'Veritas Project.' Other works by Peretti include This Present Darkness and The Visitation, along with another juvenile series, 'The Cooper Kids Adventures.' The screenplay for the second of his 'Veritas Project' series, Nightmare Academy, currently is in development by Namesake Entertainment, the company that partnered with Witness Entertainment, Ralph Winter Productions, and Chicago's Total Living Network, to bring Peretti's novels to the big screen. Hangman's Curse is Namesake Entertainment's fourth project since forming in 1996. The company aims to fill a market niche for positive, thought-provoking entertainment that emphasizes the importance of virtues. Many of Namesake's films are based on books by popular niche authors. A recognized industry leader, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment is the marketing, sales and distribution company for all Fox film and television programming on VHS and DVD as well as video acquisitions and original productions for the U.S. and Canada.
